Celebrating Barre

If you have driven through Barre, you may recognize "the Sculptor," a tribute to Italian immigrant granite artists. Although the Town of Barre's voters currently lean Republican, in the early 1900s, 90% of Barre wage earners belonged to a union, and many proudly considered themselves socialists.

Sugar Cows - also known as Cows That Run!

The Fall foliage has been amazing this year - and surprisingly good weather. I attended Peacham's fall foliage festival, painted en plein air and talked with people all day. This sugar house sits against a copse of trees at the top of a hilly pasture where curious heifers stroll down to stare back at you.

Luscious Tide Pools

Cards to Benefit Peacham's Snow Roller Barn Restoration!

Before snow plows, there were snow rollers.  Pulled by oxen or horses, these heavy wooden rollers packed and flattened the snow on roads.  The Town of Peacham has the only known barn in Vermont purposely built to store town snow rollers.  But it fell into disrepair since its mid-1800's construction & needs some work to shore it up.

Proceeds from the sale of this painting "Rolling Home" and printed notecards will benefit the roller barn's restoration.  Contact me, or find the cards at the Peacham Winter Farmers' Market, Thursdays 3-6.  Suggested donation: $10 for either a pack of 6 cards 4x6 size, or pack of 5 cards 5x7 size, both with envelopes.  Or I can mail them - contact me for postage rate & your address.  Checks may be made out to the Town of Peacham with memo  Roller Barn Fund.

Falling for Fall

A little seasonal inspiration.  I am still working on some more in this vein even though the leaves are off the outdoor trees now.  We still have to have color somehow.

This man and his tractor were in Peacham's July 4th parade. To me they were an American flag in motion. 

A little scene in plein air at Northfield Falls with the Vermont Watercolor Society "Paint Out" June 19th. It was hot so wading in the water felt great -- even when I fell in.

Mixing it up: a land conservationist blends watercolor & work

My solo exhibit at the Vermont Governor's Office, Montpelier, VT

The Governor's office is in the Pavilion building on Gov.Davis Avenue just off State Street (near Capitol Plaza, the gas station, what used to be Thrush Tavern). Note: you need a photo i.d. at the front security desk, then go up to the 5th floor; always open to the public during business hours. What a great state that encourages private artists to exhibit their works in its public buildings!
